Black Beach's not so surfy single "Static Sound"

Thick fuzz and barbaric yawping mark the highlights of this trip to Black Beach, Boston’s heavy doom punks whose idea of fun in the sun certainly involve some necessary self-medication, surfing sludgy waves, and passing out under the boardwalk.

Their rip-roaring “Static Sound” is a pummeling fist-punch right in the middle of the LP which starts slow and heavy and picks up to a driving, climatic second half. Their last outing “The Youth is Out There” is a 6+ minute burner that really hits home the Black Beach ethos: this is ghoulish music for ghoulish people, stalking the dirty sand under the cover of night to blaze the eternal light.

Listen to the Shallow Creatures (official release on 3/4) below and go see them at Shea Stadium this Sunday (3/6).
